about sdsp (san diego summer project)
This project exists to provide an environment where we can step out in faith, grow in our passion for the lost, experience Christ-centered fellowship and grow in our love for Him.
San Diego is a beautiful place not only physically, but also spiritually. This is a town full of people, many college aged, who love to hang out, talk, and meet new people. What better a place to take steps of faith in beach outreach, initiating spiritual conversations in the workplace, being vulnerable and real in small groups, or in working with local campuses and churches?
At the San Diego Summer Project, our heart is passionate for the lost. We want to help people help people encounter Jesus. “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” (John 17:3) God is a loving God who wants to have a personal relationship with us, which is why He sent His Son to die for our sins.
Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10) God has reached out to us so we reach out to others. This is not only our hope or heart in San Diego, but it is our mission.
Matthew 9:37 says, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.”
In San Diego, the harvest truly is plentiful. The city is home to over 1 million people. SDSP is reaching out to these people in many ways: being involved with local churches, spending time on local college campuses, working various full and part-time jobs, and in various outreach and community parties. We partner with several local churches, where we get to volunteer, lead worship, help greet, or help raise awareness and attendance. We also just enjoy being a part of the body of Christ by going to the churches’ cookouts, parties, and movie nights.
One of out most important outreaches is our jobs. While this is a time where we can be responsible and make money to take back home, it also offers us the chance to minister to our co-workers. Our jobs are one of the most enjoyable things we participate in while we are in San Diego. We meet so many new people, have such a big opportunity to talk to others about God, and have a blast working with them. These job opportunities include Sea World, surf shops, and numerous shops on the boardwalk. If you can’t secure a job, there are many volunteer opportunities that allow us to impact San Diego. God is doing big things in the workplace here in San Diego.
Outreach is big in San Diego. Whether it be on the beach, at Friday Night Live, or at our community parties, we are trying to hang out with as many people as possible in order to maximize our impact in San Diego – all while we’re having fun.
